Ümit Önal, Turkey’s Head of Cybersecurity, conveyed in an interview with Milliyet that contemporary warfare extends far beyond physical battlefields into cyberspace. Stressing the prominence of cyberspace as a critical domain for national defense, Önal discussed Turkey’s efforts to bolster its cyber defense capabilities. He highlighted ongoing cooperation between defense industries and public institutions aimed at strengthening resilience against cyber threats.
In an increasingly digital world, Önal underscored the need for governments and private sectors alike to invest robustly in cybersecurity. He pointed out the significance of coordinated action among diverse stakeholders and also the imperative of international cooperation to counter sophisticated cyber threats effectively.
Given the rising frequency of cyberattacks and cyberwarfare scenarios, Turkey is focused on enhancing its cyber defense infrastructure. Önal remarked on the necessity of aligning digital security policies with evolving threat landscapes, alongside fostering indigenous technological development to maintain strategic advantage in cyberspace.
