Defense Minister Akar Announces ALTAY Tank’s Serial Production and KAAN Project Progress
During his visit to Rize, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar shared significant updates regarding Turkey’s defense industry. He confirmed that the ALTAY main battle tank has transitioned into serial production, highlighting the platform’s role in strengthening the land forces with indigenous technologies.
Minister Akar further revealed that the National Combat Aircraft project, KAAN, recognized as the future of Turkey’s air power, has reached significant milestones and is preparing for the delivery phase. KAAN is a domestically developed 5th generation fighter jet tailored to meet Turkey’s defense requirements.
Expressing that the ALTAY tank program contributes substantially to Turkey’s defense capabilities, Akar emphasized close coordination among all institutions to ensure timely and high-quality progress. Key organizations, including TUSAŞ and the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), are closely collaborating on the KAAN project.
These announcements reflect Turkey’s strategic efforts to become self-sufficient in defense technologies and expand its export potential.
