GÖKBEY Helicopter Enters Countdown for Civil Certification
The Turkish defense industry’s domestically developed GÖKBEY helicopter is preparing to embark on the civil aviation certification process. Designed and built with local capabilities, this multi-role helicopter aims to comply with international standards to serve civil aviation needs alongside its military applications.
Certification efforts are being conducted in coordination with Turkey’s Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Presidency of Defense Industries, targeting dual certification for both military and civil use. This dual certification will enable the helicopter to operate in civilian missions domestically and internationally.
Achieving civil certification will place GÖKBEY at the forefront of helicopter manufacturing in Turkey, providing a competitive edge in the civil aviation market. It also represents a major step forward for Turkey’s aerospace technology and production capacity.
Experts highlight that once the civil certification is finalized, GÖKBEY will be capable of fulfilling essential civilian roles such as public services, search and rescue, and emergency response missions, broadening its operational scope. This progress underscores the advanced technological capabilities of Turkey’s aviation and defense sectors.
The project is expected to significantly boost Turkey’s aerospace exports, creating a robust brand for the indigenous helicopter across both military and civil markets, with civil certification opening new avenues for growth.
