The Goal Kızılelma – Documentary | Episode 2
A 20-Year Challenging Journey
The development journey of Bayraktar KIZILELMA MIUS (Unmanned Combat Aerial System), which has opened the doors to a new era in Turkey’s defense and aerospace industries and gained global recognition, is brought to screens through the documentary “Target KIZILELMA”. The film showcases the development story of Turkey’s first unmanned combat aircraft, Bayraktar KIZILELMA, which was entirely designed and developed indigenously by Baykar using its own resources. It also chronicles Baykar’s nearly 20-year-long journey of creating high-tech, indigenous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The “Target KIZILELMA” documentary includes insights from retired military personnel, engineers, and journalists who witnessed Baykar’s high-tech development journey. Notable figures, such as retired Vice Chief of the General Staff Admiral Ergin Saygun and retired Brigadier General Ömer Faruk Küçük, share their experiences about how their paths crossed with the Bayraktar family and the challenges Baykar overcame. Ömer Bayraktar, the brother of the late Özdemir Bayraktar, the pioneer of the National Technology Initiative, narrates firsthand how the journey reached success despite numerous obstacles and attempts to hinder progress.
Directed by Altuğ Gültan and Burak Aksoy, who previously directed the AKINCI documentary, the production involved months of filming at the Özdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center in Istanbul and the AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu, Tekirdağ, where Bayraktar KIZILELMA test activities were conducted. The documentary project, which began in February 2022, was completed in approximately nine months.
