Turkey’s First Indigenous Earth Observation Satellite ‘İmece’ Set for 2027 Launch
Turkey is preparing to launch ‘İmece,’ its first domestically and nationally developed earth observation satellite, in 2027. Strengthening technological collaboration within its defense sector, Turkey aims to significantly enhance its space observation capacities with this satellite.
‘İmece’ is designed to capture high-resolution earth observations, supporting a variety of applications such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, disaster management, and urban planning across different geographical regions of Turkey. This will improve Turkey’s strategic intelligence gathering both nationally and internationally.
The development process involved multiple domestic companies and official institutions like TÜBİTAK. The project serves both defense and civilian purposes and underlines the importance of national technology initiatives. It is a landmark for Turkey’s drive toward independence in space technologies.
Scheduled for launch in 2027, the İmece satellite represents a new era for Turkey’s space ambitions, offering critical support for scientific research and defense-related space-based surveillance activities.
