US Approves $700 Million Sale Supporting Turkey’s National Combat Aircraft KAAN

Turkey’s National Combat Aircraft (NAKAAN) project, a flagship initiative within its indigenous defense sector, has achieved a significant breakthrough with the U.S. approval of a $700 million defense sale. This move underlines global recognition and support for Turkey’s advancing aerospace capabilities.

Lead developer Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), with collaboration from the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and other national institutions, aims to field KAAN as the country’s first fifth-generation fighter jet. The program seeks to elevate Turkey’s air force capabilities while minimizing dependence on foreign suppliers.

The approved U.S. sale is expected to facilitate critical procurement and technology transfer necessary for KAAN’s development and operational deployment. Consequently, this bolsters the aircraft’s competitiveness globally and strengthens Turkey’s position in international defense partnerships.

KAAN stands as a testament to Turkey’s growing expertise in aerospace engineering and defense technology, reflecting national ambitions of establishing strategic autonomy in air combat capabilities. This recent milestone marks a vital step forward in Turkey’s journey to becoming a prominent defense power.
